Before Joi Lau started his musical career, he worked at a comics publishing company as an illustrator. He spend countless hours a day just focusing on a few key frames but to him, this was his passion so he did not mind at all. But as he grew older, the income from this job was just not sufficient. So he chose to leave in order to find another job. During this time, he received a call from his former manager at the comics company and he manager asked if he would like to be a singer. At first he was quite reluctant as he had been an introvert all his life and did not enjoy attention. However, in the end, he gave it a try, and this became the start of Joi's musical career.
